So, a while back, I put a resume on an online Nanny Agency. They do background checks and all that good stuff and match families with nannies that fit their criteria. Basically it's the match.com/eharmony of child care....
I got a call...
from a family in new york...
they have 4 kids and one on the way. they pay an ungodly amount of money, weekly. they provide my transportation - a 2007 yukon denali...holla! they have 2 yorkies and a miniature schnauzer. they live in manhattan...but they also have a house in the hamptons...and they are closing on a house in the mediterranean. they travel out of the country a lot and need a nanny that won't mind traveling with them. the children are home-schooled by a tutor, so 3 of them would be in the tutor's possession most of the weekdays. they will pay me extra to cook for them. holla! they will give me a week off at thanksgiving, 2 weeks at christmas, and any other holidays off. they will fly me home on said holidays and any time i need/want to go home. i would have from noon saturday, to noon monday off, every week. i would have my own private quarters - 2 bedrooms (in case anyone wants to come visit me) a living room area and a bathroom.
they are flying me to new york, first friggin class, labor day weekend to spend a weekend with them, to see if i will like them.
Honestly, I'm pretty much already in LOVE with these people, and not just because this is the opportunity of a friggin lifetime...the mother seems to be a very down to earth and awesome woman...and she's from texas! Here's hoping they like me!!
I'm nervous, excited, scared...ok, you name it, I'm feeling it. I mean, it's new york city for cryin out loud. that scares the piss out of me...but at the same time it's new york city and how freakin cool is that!?
my mother and grandmother are freaking out...and i love that. OK, the tears from mimi totally sucked, but she's totally for it and already planning monthly visits...slow down mimi, we don't even know if I've gotten the job yet...

Wow! That is a great opportunity! I hope it goes well and you 'click' with the family!
WOW, what an opportunity! Make sure you make your list of pros and cons...think it through! Here is what I can think of so far: Pro's...being able to quit the job you hate. Seeing a new part of the country. Seeing the way the "other half live". Still having dogs. Cons: Leaving your family,(aka Jake) leaving your dogs. Not being in control and living off new family schedule.
You only live once!
congrats and good luck!!! i know you'll keep everyone posted :)
Good luck! I'll be praying for you.
I'm with mp....just make your list of pros and cons (and read 'The Nanny Diaries' before you go). That said, it sounds like a wonderful opportunity for this stage in your life so it's worth checking out! Have a great time in first class, but don't have too many mojitos on the way...
Good luck! I hope you and the family hit it off.
WHOA-Impress them so I can live vicariously through you.
That sounds awesome! The children must be awful!
Good luck!
