We interrupt this ridiculously long blog hiatus to bring you pictures of an oh so fun weekend.
2 weekends ago, I met Juliet in Austin for a much needed girls’ weekend. Neither of us had been to Austin in years, so it just seemed like the place to be. Boy, did we ever choose the right destination! Here’s our weekend in a nutshell:
my drive was a whole lot of…
there was a lot of eating involved…
see also, drinking…
but mostly, there was pure bliss in being in this city we both love so much…
Unfortunately, Juliet’s flight was delayed, so we didn’t get as much time in Austin as we had hoped. I think we made up for it though!
As I said, we ate. A lot. We may or may not have planned everything around what and when we were going to eat.
Naturally, we had way too much fun on 6th Street. After an insanely delicious dinner at Chuy’s, we headed to Little Woodrow’s for drinks and turtle races. Yes, I said turtle races. I wasn’t really feeling the giant crowd and couldn’t see the turtle races, so we headed back down 6th. We very wisely chose to not participate in the Pub Crawler. I mean, seriously? A bar made of bicycles? No thanks, y’all.
Luckily, a friend texted me to remind me about Pete’s Dueling Piano Bar. Oh my was it just what I needed! We were there for hours and had oh. so. much. fun. I’m a big fan of live music anyway, but you throw comedy and an involved crowd into the mix? YES PLEASE!
We met some new friends and ended up being invited to stay after hours for a (short) private concert. I am seriously amazed at the talent the musicians at Pete’s possess. Two pianos played by two amazing singers, playing “Hallelujah” in a practically empty bar? Goosebumps.
Funny thing about Austin… It makes me feel young and old all at the same time. I felt like a teenager again when I looked at the clock and it was nearly 6 a.m., and I was still awake from the morning before.
I promptly felt ridiculously old when, on just a few hours of sleep, we stumbled into Magnolia Café, barely spoke while we ate, and then both agreed it was time to go back to the hotel for a nap.
After a delicious nap on possibly the world’s WORST hotel bed (seriously y’all, it was a sleep number bed that neither of us could manage to properly operate), we felt much better and headed out again.
We gawked the beautiful people at Whole Foods Market, twice. We cuddled with a teeny, tiny, ovary tingling, baby girl.
We joined a bazillion people at The Salt Lick.
We did not get a tattoo, and we did not steal a puppy named Rico Suave.
We did hold up traffic in the parking lot while gawking at this monstrosity. I mean, seriously, does the owner carry a ladder in his back pocket? And parked in the handicap spot no less!
We did not feel we were young and crazy enough to party on 6th again, knowing that we both had to travel the next day. So we shared a bottle of wine by the pool, while ignoring the “no glass” and “no food or drinks” signs and watching paramedics and firemen escort a girl off the property.
Sunday we slept in a little, had breakfast at the Counter Café, got Juliet a real cup of coffee, and thanked this cyclist for being so beautiful. I’m not even kidding. We were so blatantly staring that we had to just thank him for being so blessed in the genetics department. Yes, it was as awkward as it sounds.
All too soon, I had to take her back to the airport. And then I had to drive home. Alone. There may have been a lot of car dancing involved. Hey, whatever it takes to stay awake, right?
Come back soon, friend! Next time, we shall have more time and a much more comfy bed!
