My wife has the same problem, and she gets ticked at me for being able to close my eyes and be asleep in seconds. For me, the trick is to have an elaborate fantasy world to dip into each night. I have this whole universe of things I've created in my head, and as I lie there trying to focus on it I end up dozing off almost instantly.
Of course, I LIKE it there so I'm really trying NOT to fall asleep, but so it goes.
I think part of the reason my wife has insomnia is because she gets over-stimulated by TV and music and all the other things she's into. Try chilling that stuff down to something somber and maybe you can get the ol' alpha waves into a decent rhythm.

A hot Hot HOT jacuzzi? (or steamy bath) .... maybe it will put you to sleep =)
Get up early and exercise hard every day!
I often find myself with insomnia, too. It sucks!
GAWD! What is the matter with you? My problem is I can sleep 16 hours a day if these damn children would leave me alone!
