so, bossy did dallas. and oh. my. gawd. did we have a great time with her! let me just say, if you read her blog (and you should) and you wonder if she's really as cool in person as she is on her blog, well, she's not. she's even more awesome in person. yep. it's true. so, here's how my mad dash to the Big D went:

after spending an ungodly amount of money filling up the tank of the truck (thanks neighbor!), i did what I always do before i go on a roadtrip. i washed the truck. i get this habit from my daddy.
then, i hit the road. now would be a good time to mention the drive between abilene & dallas is pretty much equivalent to sitting for three hours, listening to a lecture on the history of dirt. don't believe me?
this is not the same picture. this was taken an hour later. when making this trek, i highly suggest lots of upbeat music to car dance sing along to, cafeine, a fully charged cell phone, and snacks. lots of snacks. otherwise, you will fall asleep and die.
this is Weatherford High School, but I like to call it Mammoth High. seriously, this school is gargantuan. i always get excited when i see it, because it means civilization the metroplex is just around the bend.
hello weatherford, nice to see ya. sorry i can't stay. i've got a hot date with a bunch of bloggy babes...
ahhh now we're entering fort worth. home of TCU, Hulen Mall, and my grandmother's favorite newspaper. now, you always hear DFW this and DFW that. Yes, Dallas and Fort Worth are basically connected, but they are not the same place. We've still got a good ways to go before we get to Dallas. When I crossed the Dallas county line, i called our host, Debbie to let her know I was in town. She laughed at the way too short amount of time it took to make it to Dallas, then gave me directions to her casa.
i don't have a picture because i was too pissed at this point, but now is when i was looking for my exit, found it, got cut off, and missed it. so, i ended up in texarkana. the end. oh wait, i take that back. after i mentally cussed the fucktard (it's dallas folks, don't wanna get shot), i made my way back west. this time, i found my exit. and a few minutes later, i was in front of an adorable house, with my new friend waiting for me at the door. We instantly talked like old friends. Bossy wasn't there yet, and we needed to go to the grocery store, so we hopped in Deb's pimpmobile SUV and went to Tom Thumb, where we proceeded to look like alcoholics buy limeade for the margaritas and another bottle of Prosecco. mmm
sorry, still no pictures. i was too busy talking. as we were walking out of Tom Thumb, Deb's phone rang, and guess who it was? yep, the boss lady was in town! we went back to deb's neighbor's house. then we sat there for a second. then we parked in front of deb's house. :-D We unloaded the car and started the guacamole.
Then, a 70's Drumset-Blue Saturn pulled up and i fainted dead away. the end. oh wait, that's not how it goes either. ok, so we walked outside and *cue trumpets* there was Bossy in all her bossy gloriousness! She's tall and thin and friggin gorgeous and had the biggest smile on her face even after driving for hours and hours. She promptly gave us a hug & kiss on the cheek (yes, i've washed my face. what do you think i am, some crazy bossy stalker? don't answer that). She cleaned out the Vue and hid her baby powder, then came in to join us.

after she got settled and washed up, bossy joined us in the kitchen/living room for conversation, pictures and email. and seriously? it was like all three of us were old friends. we just found conversation so easy and comfortable. it was great. Deb took us around to the ginormous gothic churchloft (that's a new word i just created) she and her family are remodeling into a home. oh yes, a 16,000 square foot duplex. It. Is. Awesome. While we were there, Deb's boyfriend the Saturn guy called Bossy. She ran back to the house and got the keys to her grayish Outlook. I realized I could be a Saturn Saleswoman because I proceeded to tell Bossy & Deb all about the Outlook (Neighbor just bought one so she told me all about it and i apparently retained all of it while drooling over the leather interior).

Debbie and I had a good three hours with Georgia Bossy. We were beginning to think it would just be the three of us and were preparing to put on our jammies, when some of the awesome girls showed up, and more conversation ensued. and in no time at all, it was like a bunch of sorority sisters having a reunion, with a side of homemade guacomole (which was DE-LISH, debbie!)
then it was time for yum yum yummy fajitas and more margaritas and bubbly prosecco. sophie (denise's 3.5 lb yorkie) was such a good girl. she slept in her purse while we ate. i'm pretty much in love with sophie. she's cute, and she has great taste in purses.
then we went on a little field trip, drinks in hand.
our destination was the churchloft, which just happens to be practically in Debbie's backyard. They have done an awesome job on this place, and i cannot wait to see the finished product! OK, so Deb & her family can't wait to see the finished product either. I'll post some more pictures from the churchloft in another post.
the churchloft has a great view of downtown dallas from the second and third floors. *burp* did i mention margaritas were involved? really really good margaritas...

bossy found a stripper pole! actually, bossy doesn't pose in a lot of the great pictures you see of her. she's got this natural flowing beauty just spilling out of her every move. wow i sound like a lesbian...

*jes, crystal, jen, bossy, deb, vanessa, elizabeth, denise, & sophie*
then, we headed back to the house for pictures (thanks kevin!), cupcakes (recipe to come soon!) and more booze conversation. then the gal's went home one by one (and to the hotel two by two), and then it was just Debbie, Bossy, and Biddy again. we talked a while longer and actually convinced bossy she could sleep in later than 4 a.m. before heading to her next stop. Bossy and Deb retired to their cloud beds and i crashed on that green couch you see in the picture above (which was the 2nd most comfortable couch i've ever slept on...it was seriously great). i watched a little Golden Girls, then slept like a rock.
Kelly was right, Bossy could totally be a cat burglar. I slept literally 8 feet from the front door and never heard her leave.
Deb and I talked a while longer, then it was time for her to go to work and me to get on the road. we split up the remaining cupcakes and said our goodbyes. thanks for the great time, deb! i will definitely be back! oh, and should you ever feel the need to experience small town life and visit abilene, my door is always open :-)
bye bye, dallas!

uh oh....

guess i spoke too soon...
it definitely took me almost six hours to get home. i was at a dead stop in traffic for entirely too long. like, long enough to pluck my eyebrows, order a pizza, check my e-mail, eat the pizza, and take a nap, all while on interstate 30. I guess it was karma kicking my butt since i made the (usually) 3.5 hour trip in 2 hours and 10 minutes. ooops
girls, i had so. much. fun! we HAVE to do this again sometime!!

So. Jealous! It sounds like you guys had an awesome day! One day, when I grow up, I wanna be JUST LIKE Bossy.... and Biddy.
I love your writing style...so funny! I'm so glad we're friends now. Please email me if your Dad is ever gonna play Arlington or anywhere near Dallas so we can all meet up.
OMG. What fun! Margaritas! YUM!
I've started a BOSSY's Excellent Road Trip flickr group. It would be totally awesome if you could submit some pix. [I've tried to find other pix by searching for tags ... doesn't anyone use tags anymore?]
Anyway, here's the link: http://www.flickr.com/groups/674172@N24/
The group is small. Hopefully I can convince more people to contribute :-)
*smooches*

Glad you made it back safely and was able to get a pizza, check your email and get a nap while sitting in traffic.
