this is not the post i had in mind for my 600th post. it's not fun. it's not witty.
i just thought yesterday was a bad day.
My mom called me into her office this morning. I figured I had done something to piss her off. right now, i wish that was the case.
she told me that the doctors have decided to call in hospice for my precious great-grandmother. this is the email i sent to several people this afternoon after I went to see her at the nursing home:
I just wanted to let everyone know that the doctors have decided to call in Hospice for my great-grandmother, Jo Mason.
She has been in a nursing home since she broke her hip a few years ago, and has just never been the same. She turned 91 in September and is just old and tired. As far as we know, she is not in any pain, but we are sure she will be going Home to Jesus soon. I went to see her this afternoon. She was too tired to open her eyes for me, but I was able to feed her and talk to her for a little bit. I'm not really sure she knew who I was.
You are all dear friends of mine, and you know how close Nana and I are. Many of you may remember her as the little white haired lady that always brought me lunch and picked me up from school. Please keep my family in your prayers as we prepare to say goodbye to yet another member of our family. We would all very much appreciate it.
I consider all of you my dear friends too and would greatly appreciate your prayers or thoughts or jokes to make me laugh.

I'm sorry, hon. I've got no witty remarks for you, only a shoulder if needed and a sympathetic hug.
So sorry to hear about your Nana. Wish I had something funny for you...
Oh Biddy, I'm sorry. Wish I could give you a big hug. Like the others, I don't have any amusing remarks to make you laugh or smile.
Hmm, maybe this (which may not be that funny).
"I once met a man with a wooden leg, named Smith."
In which you should reply,
"What was the name of his other leg?"

I just lost my grandma, so I know how you must be feeling. Sorry I have nothing to make you smile, just prayers and hugs.
Love you Biddy. Hope the sun comes out for you today...
If she does meet Jesus soon maybe she can put in a good word for you.
