Well folks, looks like I'm going to be a grandmother today. That's right...Chablis officially went into labor around 7:25 this morning. She seems a bit freaked out at the moment and of course, I am totally clueless on the process of birthin' puppies....I made her a ghetto fabulous bed in Friend's utility room (a $6 mattress cover and 2 $1.50 towels) but I had to go sit there with her in order to get her to lay on it (she was laying on the cold tile right by the back door).
This is going to be interesting...please God, don't let me faint (this is totally not in vain, i'm incredibly serious about that)
will update later....
ugh...i'm going to be a grandmother...
Update: Houston...we have a puppy! I went in to check on her about 9:35 and found a squirming wet mess of a puppy on the floor. At first I didn't even think to look for gender...duh Biddy. I picked the puppy up and put it next to Chablis and gave the new mama some praise. Went back in the living room for a little tv then went back to check on them. I think the puppy was trying to get back inside mama haha...Anyway, I picked the puppy up and found out it's a boy...I think :-) He's tiny and black and wrinkled and well, ugly. But he'll get cuter...right? Mama is being protective, and that's a good sign. She didn't mind me picking him up the first time, but the second time she wasn't liking it....
Update: Well, it's 12:40 and we had another puppy a few minutes ago. Unfortunately she was still born. So sad! I'm crying over a puppy i didn't even want at first...Poor Chablis is still trying to get her to wake up. It's seriously heartbreaking. I held her upside down and tried to clear out her throat but it was no use. she was cold and didn't look quite right. Friend says to leave her in there for now so Chablis doesn't get too freaked out. I hope there isn't a problem with the rest of them...Right now we've got baby boy wrapped in a blanket...it's colder in the utility room than i thought it would be...
Update: It's 1:43 and I just helped Chablis deliver girl number two. She was walking around with the puppy halfway out. I, being the sympathetic dork I am, helped her get the puppy the rest of the way out, then had to help her break open the placenta...ewww I'm happy to say Chablis disgustingly took care of the rest, the puppy is alive and i'm going to puke...
Update: It's 4:00 and in the last two hours she's had 2 more puppies. One is only about 15 minutes old. I don't know their genders yet. Mama has been busy cleaning them up and I went to get a heater for the utility room and some lunch (yes, we had lunch at 3:30). I wasn't gone long and on my way back, Friend called me and said number 5 had arrived. Wow...I really hope that's all the puppies she's going to have...I guess we'll see! I called my parents to tell them they are great grandparents...they weren't exactly thrilled haha On a sad note, Chablis finally let me take the girl that was stillborn. so sad...still makes me want to cry
More Later
Ugh! This is so frustrating and sad! The girl that was born while i was gone is dead and Chablis is not being a very good mommy...I have no idea if she's done or not. I hope so because I don't think I can stand to see another lil puppy dead...
It's 6:56 and I think the baby birthin bonanza is officially over. 5 puppies in all, but only 3 are alive :( so sad! I know it's probably crazy, but I really think i could see the pain in Chablis' eyes. I've cried several times today over the two lost puppies - both girls. I know for sure there is one boy and one girl alive...I can't tell what gender the third is. kind of looks like a girl with testicles...Who knows. Anyway, I guess I'll know for sure in the morning. Mark, my uncle, Chablis' vet, wants to see the four of them in the morning.
I need to go get some paper towels and carpet cleaner...yay for wally on a freezing cold night
